The UBC Thunderbirds are headed to the Canadian national football championship final. The T-Birds earned a berth in the Vanier Cup after beating St. Francis Xavier 36-9 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia today to win the Uteck Bowl.

T-Birds quarterback Michael O’Connor went 21-for-31 for 290 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. O’Connor spread the ball around, finding eight different receiving targets. Brandon Deschamps led the way on the ground, rushing for 128 yards and scoring one touchdown.

This will be UBC’s first appearance in the Vanier Cup since 1997, when they beat the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

UBC will play the defending champion University of Montreal Carabins at Laval Stadium in Quebec City next Saturday (10:00am on Sportsnet).
