Now more than ever is the right time to become a teacher.

Think about it, you have the opportunity to inspire and influence future generations. You can make a difference while following your passions and inspiring others to do the same.

Teaching is a career choice that will never go out of fashion and your skills will always be needed, both here in Canada and abroad. With that said, we’ve teamed up with UBC to highlight why its teacher education program is a popular choice for undergraduate degree holders.

Here are the top four reasons why you’ll want to gain your teaching degree at UBC.

Choice and quality

UBC’s faculty of education offers the largest and most comprehensive teacher preparation program in BC. It is also one of the world’s top 15 top faculties of education. And that means you have a plethora of choices when it comes to studying here. It’s the only faculty that includes specialization in all teachable subjects for secondary schools as well as cohort-based elementary and middle years options. It also has BC’s longest running teacher education program for those of Aboriginal heritage (NITEP), the West Kootenay rural teacher education program, a dual degree option where you can combine studying education, science, music, or kinesiology, and so much more.

Teachers are in-demand

It has never been a better time, and BC has never been a better place to become a teacher. To be eligible for UBC’s BEd degree, all you need to have is a bachelor’s degree and relevant academic preparation. You must also have volunteer or work experience in a group setting with children or youth, preferably at the age level you wish to teach. There are plenty of teaching jobs available for new graduates out of UBC’s Teacher Education Program, so that gives you peace of mind before you even start the course. Plus, the demand for teachers in the workforce is set to continue over time.

11-month program

Once you have an undergraduate degree – in any number of areas – you can apply to UBC’s Teacher Education Program, complete an entire Bachelor of Education degree in 11 months and embark on a career as an educator right way. Included in that whirlwind (almost) year, you’ll experience on-campus coursework, lots of time in schools, plus a 3-week field experience in a completely different context, including rural and international possibilities.

Work anywhere in the world

Graduates of UBC’s Teacher Education Program are in-demand within BC, Canada as a whole, and on a global scale. UBC’s status as a top ranked world university means that your qualification here really goes a long way in Canada and around the globe!
