Two women injured after dog runs in front of train

Two local women were rushed to the hospital late last night, after a potentially fatal collision with a moving train.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at approximately 9 pm, RCMP were called the railway near the 51000-block of Yale Road.

They had received reports of a collision between two pedestrians and a moving train.

Upon arriving at the scene, Chilliwack officers were quick to locate the two local women. They had suffered non-life threatening injuries and were rushed to hospital by BC Ambulance.

Officers revealed in a statement that the pair of women were walking their dog late in the evening. The pet dog ran in front of the rail track, in front of an incoming Canadian Pacific train moving westbound.

Unfortunately, the pet passed away due to fatal injuries.

The RCMP, as well as CN and CP police, are investigating further into the incident.

Corporal Mike Rail and the RCMP are reminding pedestrians that not only are “railway lines on private property” but “it is dangerous to walk on or near tracks.”
