10 things to do in the Tri-Cities this September

September is upon us, and there’s many exciting events happening in the Tri-Cities! Here is our rundown of 10 things to do around Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody this month, including Terry Fox Hometown Run, Treefest 25, and more.

Summer Cinema Series – Coco

  • What: Enjoy an outdoor screening of the modern Pixar classic, Coco. Arrive early for best lawn seating selection and don’t forget to bring a blanket. Presented by Panatch Group.

Treefest 25 – Riverview Arboretum 2018

  • What: Enjoy guided tree and heritage walks, talks and tours. Yes there will be cake.

  • Time: 11 am to 4 pm
  • Where: Riverview Lands. Enter the site from Colony Farm Road. Event is held in the Arboretum above Pine Terrace. Parking is available on Pine Terrace.

Film Night & Q&A – Edna’s Bloodline

  • What: An Inuit and a Swede, both descendants of arctic explorer Petter Norberg, embark on a quest to learn about Petter’s life in the Canadian north and to trace his last journey up the Coppermine River from Kugluktuk, to the Bloody Falls where he mysteriously disappeared decades ago.

Mackin House 109th Anniversary – Open House

  • What: Step back in time to 1909 as you explore Mackin House in an immersive way. Join the heritage performers as they give demonstrations, tell stories and share traditions throughout the different rooms in Mackin House. Enjoy the Celtic sounds of Black Sheep, then make crafts, watch baking demonstrations, and participate in interactive activities for all ages.

Free Yoga in Elks Park

  • What: Free family event with certified Hyde Creek yoga instructors in Elks Park. All levels welcome and please bring your own water and mat or towel. Weather permitting.

Terry Fox Hometown Run

  • What: The Terry Fox Hometown Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money for cancer research in Terry’s name. There are 3 km, 5 km, 7 km and 10 km distances.

  • Time: Registration 8 am, run begins 10 am

Rainforest by Night

  • What: Experience a west coast rainforest beneath a full moon when owls, salamanders and beavers are active. Ages 6+
  • When: Friday, September 21, 2018

Mid-Autumn Mooncake Demonstration

  • What: Learn the history, customs, and tradition behind the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Instructor Jessica Yue will first show you how you how to make ice mooncakes. Then you will take a quick tour of the house while she sets up the kitchen and shows you how to make baked mooncakes. You’ll get a chance to sample each of the mooncakes as well. Space is limited so sign up early. Ages 12+.

Rivers and Trails Festival

  • What: Celebrate Port Coquitlam’s rivers and trails and enjoy a day of music, art and culture. There will be children’s activity passport stations and prizes, food trucks, a salmon smolt release, an art station, live music by Jessica Barbour, instruments from around the world and an interactive drumming workshop with Boris.

Venosta Radio Show – Ioco Ghost Town Days Festival

  • What: Venosta Radio Show takes the audience back to the days before television when families would gather around the radio to be entertained by stories, ads, and music. Enjoy a free behind-the-scenes look at how a 1920s radio show was executed. Performed by the Expect Theatre as part of Culture Days.
