There's free public transit across Metro Vancouver this New Year's Eve

Dec 17 2018, 12:35 pm

TransLink will be helping revellers across Metro Vancouver enjoy their New Year’s Eve celebrations, all the while starting 2019 safely.

The public transit authority will be offering free public transit service across the entire region between 5 pm on Monday, December 31, 2018, to 5 am on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. This means free rides on all buses, all three SkyTrain lines, and the SeaBus.

And with over 100,000 people expected to attend Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver’s fireworks festival in downtown Vancouver, there will also be a big increase in service with more frequency and later operating hours.

Buses will operate on a modified weekday schedule, with extended service for the following routes: 96 B-Line, 100, 106, 130, 209, 230, 236, 319, 320, 321, 351, 401, 408, 410, 501, 502, 555, 561, 562, 563, 601, and 701.

Throughout the night and early morning hours, revellers are also advised to take advantage of the many night bus routes clustered in TransLink’s Night Bus Hub — the area around the intersection of West Georgia Street and Granville Street.

For those making eastbound connections to the Millennium Line, the last Millennium Line train leaving Commercial-Broadway Station will be at 2:30 am. For the full last train schedule on New Year’s Eve, visit TransLink’s website.

SeaBus will also be operating an hour later — the last sailing from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay is scheduled for 2:22 am.

There will be West Coast Express service on New Year’s Eve, but its last trip for the day will be an eastbound train departing Waterfront Station at 6:20 pm.

Concord New Year's Eve Vancouver NYE

Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver’s celebrations entail a free outdoor street party at Jack Poole Plaza with DJs and street performers, a food truck festival on Canada Place Way with nearly 20 food truck options, and two spectacular fireworks shows — a 9 pm show (5 minutes long) ideal for families with younger children and an intense midnight countdown finale show starting at 12 am sharp (10 minutes long).

For those looking for a comfortable warm experience, organizers are also hosting a ticketed indoor party held inside the beautiful West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The Celebration Pass into the indoor party provides access to ample live entertainment, artists, bands, and interactive art installations. The indoor party also provides the best sightlines of both fireworks shows, as the fireworks barge in Coal Harbour is strategically positioned for the indoor party’s optimal viewing through the convention centre’s giant floor-to-ceiling windows.

Children seven years old and younger can attend the indoor party for free, making the indoor party’s warm environment and washrooms ideal for the little ones.

And for those looking for the best experience possible at Concord’s New Year’s Eve festival, the 19+ adult-only VIP Pass provides access to the 19+ adult-only Platinum VIP Lounge, located within a new furnished upper-level space, plus everything included in the Celebration Pass.

VIP revellers can expect endless catered canapes, a complimentary champagne toast at midnight, free coat check, an expedited VIP entrance, and an exclusive fireworks viewing area in the VIP Lounge.
