Starting January 1, 2014, TransLink will get rid of its discount programs including its FareSaver tickets and Employee Pass Program to make the system “more fair.” Members enrolled in the Employee Pass Program will no longer get the extra 15 per cent discount.
Here are some other changes coming to the fare structure, which largely relate to some necessary changes needed to make the Compass Card system work:
According to TransLink, the discount programs were originally introduced to increase ridership. However, they have now outlived their purpose.
Earlier this year, TransLink also scrapped free rides for transit employees, off-duty police officers, fire and rescue, and enforcement officers within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
