Transit bus in Surrey with 40 passengers shot four times with air gun

DH Vancouver Staff Jun 30, 2014 3:55 pm

Just after midnight on Sunday, a transit bus turning easy on Fraser Highway from Whalley Boulevard was shot four times with an air gun.

Shots impacted the side of the bus and broke glass windows.

The bus driver pulled over immediately and determined that none of the 40 passengers onboard were injured. Surrey RCMP and Metro Vancouver Transit Police were called to the scene, with Transit Police investigating the incident.

The bus was shot four times; once to the front windshield on the passenger side, one shot to each of the large passenger side windows and one to the rear exit door. Several of the windows were completely shattered but fortunately the glass did not fall out of the frame.

A BB style pellet was located on the road during a search of the area. It is believed that the shots were fired from a high powered BB gun, possibly semi-automatic in style, from the south side of the 13700 or 13800 blocks of Fraser Highway. A canvas of residents in the area provided no suspect information.

Transit Police ask anyone who may have seen someone or something suspicious in the area before during or after this shooting to call 604-515-8300 or text to 87 77 77. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
