It looks like Santa Claus and his team in the North Pole will have a bit of extra help this holiday season with stuffing stockings and leaving presents under Christmas trees.

But only for Santa’s routine within Canada.

The Canadian division of Toys ‘R’ Us announced today it has donated over 600,000 toys to several annual toy drivers organized by The Salvation Army. Another 100,000 toys were donated to Toronto-based Bay Street Fore a Cause, which supports various children-based charities in the Greater Toronto Area.

“We believe play is a right for children, so it’s incredibly rewarding for us to be able to make this donation and spread the joy of play this Christmas,” said Melanie Teed-Murch, president of Toys ‘R’ Us Canada, in a statement.

“We commend The Salvation Army for its efforts to support children and families in need and are proud to align ourselves with its toy drive initiative.”

The lions’ share of the portion going towards The Salvation Army were unwrapped and distributed to the charity’s community centres across all Canadian provinces.

While Toys ‘R’ Us’ bankruptcy south of the border closed all of the stores in the United States this year, the company is still intact within Canada.

In April, the toy company’s Canadian division was sold to Fairfax Financial for about $230 million, and approximately 80 stores in the country remain open.
