Timmy’s Christmas Telethon presented by Shaw started the holiday season by giving thanks to donors and corporate supporters for raising over $5.3 million in 2013 in support of the BC Lions Society’s Easter Seals Programs.
The 26th annual telethon aired live throughout BC on local Shaw TV channels, on Shaw Direct and streamed on www.timmys.org. The Telethon featured performances by six-time Canadian Fiddle Champion and Grammy Nominee, Mark Sullivan, ‘Best of BC’ winner Dominique Fricot and internationally acclaimed Hilary Grist as well as many others.
Shaw TV hosts Fiona Forbes of the Rush, Johanna Ward of go! Vancouver, Melanie Leitner of Hire Learning, Bianca Solterbeck of Dream Homes and Tim Chung of Shaw Multicultural Channel along with Global BC New anchor Chris Gailus and Global BC Morning News personalities Sophie Lui and Kaitlyn Herbst hosted the show and captivated viewers with inspiring stories of families of children with special needs, the hard work of individuals and groups as well as some of the many special events held throughout the year.
This year’s telethon featured three amazing Easter Seals guest hosts: 17 year-old Sharoo Kanwar, 18 year-old Nathan Shipley and 26 year-old Marco Pasqua from the Lower Mainland. All three have attended Easter Seals Camps and truly demonstrate what children with special needs can accomplish with the help of the BC Lions Society’s Easter Seals programs.
The Society assists children with all kinds of special needs and funds province-wide specialized services like the Society’s three Easter Seals Camps, Easter Seals House in Vancouver and Patient Care Grants. It also provides college scholarships to support youth with disabilities in furthering their education.
