For regulars at Timmys, you can now pay for your double-double via your smartphone device.

Announced Thursday by the restaurant chain, the payment system will use the app TimmyMe — available on iOS, Android and Blackberry devices — and will deduct the purchase amount from a customer’s prepaid account by a scanning a barcode on their smartphone screen.

“The launch of mobile barcode payments enables us to offer the best overall guest experience,” said Tim Hortons Chief Operating Officer David Clanachan. “Enhancing our technology so that guests can store their digital Tim Card in their phone for quick and easy payments is an added convenience we know customers will enjoy.”

Smartphone payment isn’t anything new in the caffeine business, as a similar system has been in place at Starbucks for years.

The application had a soft launch in December, available only to those in southern Ontario, but is now available at all locations across Canada and the United States.

Will you be using the TimmyMe app to pay for coffee on your smartphone?
