The weekend is finally here.  Enjoy whatever insanity Mother Nature has to throw at us this Valentine’s Day with a few of the events happening in Vancouver this weekend.

Saturday, February 13

Takao Tanabe – Sumie: Ink Paintings

  • What: A collection of Sumie, or ink paintings, from Japanese Canadian artist Takao Tanabe, exploring traditional Japanese subject matter and modernist abstraction.

Show of Hearts

  • What: The annual telethon from Variety—the Children’s Charity presents live performances by Charlie, 54-40, Aaron Pritchett, Five Alarm Funk, Sophie Simmons, Vancouver TheatreSports League, and many, many more.

Vancouver Golf & Travel Show

  • What: Over 125 presenters, showing off the latest technologies, the best destinations, and the most state-of-the-art equipment in one of the most popular games on the planet. A golfer’s dream.

Boots & Babes Ball

Love Is The Answer Benefit Dance

  • What: The second year of a dance supporting Love Is The Answer, a Canadian registered charity working in Africa that assists orphaned children and caregivers of orphaned children in areas of poverty relief and reduction.

Romantic Stanley Park

  • What: A walk through one of Vancouver’s most romantic locations, with one of Vancouver’s most romantic historians. In this case, romantic means knowledgeable.

Year of the Monkey Temple Fair

  • What: Celebrate the Year of the Monkey at Vancouver’s Chinese-style “scholar garden,” with games, activities, food, and music.

Cosmic Love Connections

  • What: Rose Marcus and Derek Rief take people and their loved ones through the year to come.

Liebeslieder: Songs of Love

  • What: Another one for the romantics – the Vancouver Cantata Singers perform Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer in the beautiful Orpheum Annex.

Valentine’s Day Massacre for Singletons

  • What: A Valentine’s Day comedy show featuring local comedians, no loved ones required. Live, laugh, and love (love optional).

  • What: Vancouver’s recurring one-act play, written with the audience’s ideas every step of the way. Characters, plot twists, even the ending, the audience inspires every part of this original work. It’s like being 1/100th of a playwright.
