Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix

  • What: If you feel the need, the need for speed, then hit the streets of Vancouver on Wednesday, July 12 for the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix. North America’s top professional cyclists will race wheel-to-wheel, tackling Canada’s most famous annual criterium bike race – and you’re invited to line the route for free.
  • When: July 12
  • Time: Youth race at 5:30 pm, opening ceremonies at 5:55 pm, women’s race at 6:15 pm, men’s race at 7:30 pm.
  • Where: Start/finish line next to Gastown’s steam clock. Spectators can line the route along Water, Cordova, and Carrall streets.
  • Cost: Free

Starlight Theatre at Lansdowne Centre – Beauty and the Beast (Live Action)

  • What: Take a drive and cuddle up, or bring a blanket and lawn chair and settle in for a screening of the live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Parking is on a first-come first-served basis (first 200 vehicles), with movie audio will be broadcast over FM radio. And keep in mind that this is a family-friendly event, so smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited.

  • Where: Lansdowne Centre, west parking lot – 5300 No. 3 Road, Richmond
  • Cost: Free

Burnaby Neighbourhood House Community BBQ Picnics

  • What: The Burnaby Neighbourhood House’s annual BBQ picnic. There will be hot dogs, cotton candy, games, face paint and more.
  • When: July 12
  • Time: 5 to 7:30 pm
  • Where: Maywood Community School – 4567 Imperial Street, Burnaby
  • Cost: Free

In-Between Worlds: An Evening with MG Vassanji

  • What: Vassanji is the first person to win the prestigious Giller Prize twice, as well as a Commonwealth Prize and a Governor General’s award. Spend an evening at the beautiful Ismaili Centre with one of Canada’s most renowned writers as he takes us on a journey between the worlds of his rich body of work.
  • When: July 12
  • Time: 7 to 8:30 pm
  • Where: Ismaili Centre Burnaby – 4010 Canada Way, Burnaby

Summer Movies in Port Moody

  • What: Enjoy family movies together at the Inlet Theatre. Films include Moana, Sing, and Beauty and the Beast. Presented by Port Moody Public Library.
  • When: Wednesdays until August 9

Phantom of the Opera – Broadway Across Canada

  • What:“The Phaaaaantom of the Opera…” with one of the most memorable musical refrains of our era, Phantom is back at the QE big stage this summer. One of the most successful musicals ever, this rendition features a newly designed stage and scenic design. Featuring 52 cast members and orchestra, Phantom will run in Vancouver for two weeks before continuing to other major cities.
  • When: July 12 to 23
  • Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre – 650 Hamilton Street, Vancouver

Leadership Series: The Business of Sport Hosting

  • What: In this instalment of CYP Leadership Series, members will hear from Michelle Collens, Senior Manager of Sport Hosting for the City of Vancouver and Chrissy Benz, Manager of the Women’s National Team and Events at Volleyball Canada, about the importance of the sports tourism industry in Vancouver and how grassroots sports are critically important to the economic health of a community.
