The first day back at work after a Long Weekend is always tough. Good thing we’ve got your hookup to more fun events happening around Vancouver! From Free Outdoor Movies to a Hungry Hippos Tournament, here are our seven things to do today.

Free Outdoor Movies in Stanley Park

Open Air Cinema

Open Air Cinema/Fresh Air Cinema

  • What: One of the most popular summertime events in the city is back as free outdoor movies return to Stanley Park this summer! The Evo Summer Cinema Series features a four-story inflatable movie screen showing favourites such as The LEGO Batman Movie, Toy Story, The Goonies and Jaws. Please bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs and, since it’s a family-friendly event, smoking or alcohol is not permitted. Movie goers are encouraged to walk, take transit, or bike to Stanley Park for the shows  – there will be a bike valet service offered on site each night too.
  • When: Every Tuesday from July 4 to August 22
  • Where: Ceperley Meadows near Second Beach, Stanley Park
  • Cost: Free

Vancouver Burlesque Centre Student Showcase

  • What: Head to the Emerald in Chinatown to hoot and holler for VBC’s sassy students. Featuring performances by Lena Emerald, Susie SweetCheeks, Cookie Craven, Dolly Dynamite aka Queen Baby, Harla Quin, Faye Havoc, Chastity Twist and Amethyst Howl
  • When: July 4

The Dirty Penny Hungry Hippos Tournament

  • What: The first annual Hungry Hippos Tournament in association with Steam Whistle Pilsner. The tournament winner receives the prize pot of $150, and $50 will go to the runner up.

Emerging Green Professional Social

A Slide Show Evening with David Wisdom

The event pairs selected images on the topics of art, music, cars and school, with music, with introductions by Wisdom and featured artists – Rodney Graham, Neil Wedman and Kathy Slade.

Surrey Secret Agents Day Camps

  • What: Invisible ink, secret briefings, code breaking, disguises, fingerprint analysis. Grab your shoe phone and dial in a week in the life of a Surrey Secret Agent. Ages 8 to 10-years-old.

Underneath Harlem Moon

  • What: A smokey soul-era Harlem cabaret in the heart of Gastown. Curated and produced by Krystle Dos Santos, the event featutres a variety of spoken word & vocal guests backed by the Harlem Moon band: Nic Bermudez, Jonny Holisko, and Mike Meroniuk.
