As the weather gets warmer, the events get hotter! From Hoopfest to Blarney Stone’s 45th Anniversary, here are seven things to do around Vancouver!

New Works Dance Allsorts presents Olivia C. Davies

  • What: Crow’s Nest and Other Places She’s Gone is a new dance-theatre work by Olivia C. Davies, developed in collaboration with Coast Salish storyteller, Rosemary Georgeson, performance artist, Anne Riley, and aerial dancer Emily Long. The work highlights women’s stories of travel and transitions, based on Contemporary Aboriginal vocabulary and story-weaving.

An Evening with Pete Yorn

  • What: American singer-songwriter Pete Yorn performs an acoustic concert at the Biltmore Cabaret.

40th Annual Bed Races and Decorated Bike Parade

  • What: The Bed Race starts with a demonstration from participants of the World Free Style Round-Up Skateboard Championships, followed by a Western themed Bike Parade. The main event is an elimination-style Bed Race where the prizes for the winners of each division are just as quirky as the race itself.

Hoopfest

  • What: Since 1994 Hoopfest has been BC Wheelchair Basketball Society’s largest annual fundraiser. Corporate and community teams of 5-10 players participate in a fun evening that includes a wheelchair basketball tournament, dinner and raffle prizes. Funds raised from Hoopfest allow BC Wheelchair Basketball to continue to run programs, leagues and tournaments, provide equipment and advocate for inclusive physical activity opportunities for British Columbians with a physical disability.

Stars on Ice

  • What: The three greatest Canadian men’s figure skaters will come together for the first time in 2017 to perform in the award-winning Investors Group Stars on Ice Tour presented by Lindt. Featuring Four-time World Champion Kurt Browning, 2014 Olympic Silver Medallist Patrick Chan, and two-time Olympic Silver Medallist Elvis Stojko.
