High fives, everyone – we made it to Friday! Start your weekend early with one of our seven things to do around Vancouver, including the Cloverdale Rodeo, Whistler’s GO Fest, and a presentation on the Housing Crisis.
What: One of North America’s longest running and most entertaining rodeos returns with competitions, live entertainment, and food and fun. The Cloverdale Invitational Rodeo will once again feature the world’s best Cowboys and Cowgirls as they compete for cash prizes.
What: The fourth annual GO Fest, Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival, returns on the Victoria Day Long Weekend. Come and spend four days trying different outdoors activities in a beautiful outdoor setting. Also features concerts, film screenings and arts workshops.
What: Using Vienna as a case study, this lecture explores the relationship of affordable housing to urban planning politics and will discuss historic and current housing policies. Touching upon the re-articulated model function of 1920s Red Vienna, Gabu Heindl will present her approach to combining strong claims (Setzungen) in public planning with a critique of paternalistic governance and with maintaining zones of contact with popular agency.
Where: Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre – Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 W. Hastings St.
What: New York City’s Too Many Zooz is Leo Pellegrino (baritone saxophone), Matt Doe (trumpet) and David “King of Sludge” Parks (drums). They gained fame when a video of one of their subway performances, recorded by a passer-by at Union Station, went viral on YouTube in March 2014.
