  • What: Celebrate the remarkable diversity of paddle craft in Vancouver, including at least five First Nations canoes, dragon boats, kayaks, voyager canoes and outriggers.
  • Where: Creekside Community Recreation Centre – 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver
  • When: 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Looking For Exits

  • What: Being screened as part of the DOXA Film Festival, this documentary is far more contemplative than most extreme sport films, focusing in on the motivations of Ellen Brennan, one of the most preeminent wingsuit BASE jumpers in the world.
  • Where: VIFF Vancity Theatre – 1181 Seymour Street, Vancouver
  • When: 7 p.m.

Ederlezi Balkan-Roma Brass Festival

  • What: This two-day festival kicks off on Friday, with a free Balkan dance workshop, followed by live performances from Fanfare Zambaleta, M9 and Orkestar Slivovica.
  • Where: The Legion on the Drive – 2205 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
  • When: May 13 and 14, doors and dance lesson at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

The Little Black Dress Gala

  • What: Mingle with Canadian Men In Suits and ladies in cocktail dresses at this charity fashion and fundraising event drawing attention to emerging designers in Vancouver.
