SkyTrain dates: 9 things to do around Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station

Lafarge lake

After about an hour train ride from Waterfront, you’ll arrive at Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station. Located in Central Coquitlam, this Skytrain stop is within walking distance of plenty of Coquitlam’s best entertainment.  To sum it up if you can make it to the end of the line, you’ll be in for a worthwhile treat.

Munch on some uber affordable tacos, or treat your date to an evening out at the theatre, there’s something for everyone here. And, since it’s nowhere close to Downtown hype yourself up for minimal lines and wait times!

Get tricky at the Town Centre Skate and BMX Jump Park

  • What: A competition level BMX track which includes a new primary and beginner circuit. The redesigned freestyle track provides for a broader range of experiences for BMX riders.
  • Where: Town Centre Park
  • When: Anytime
  • How much: Free!

Sip coffee at Caffe Divano

  • What: Coquitlam’s hottest coffee shop, boasting and roasting some of the finest brews in town. A favourite hangout for many Douglas College students.
  • Where: 3003 Burlington Drive
  • When: 6 am – 6 pm Monday to Friday, 7 am – 6 pm Saturday and  Sunday
  • How much: Around $4 per coffee

Run around Lafarge Lake

  • What: Run the 1.2 km Lafarge loop or cruise around the 2.7 km perimeter trail. Most of the trail has fantastic tree cover making it the perfect course for sunny day runs.
  • Where: Across from Town Centre Park
  • When: Anytime
  • How much: Free!

Swim at the Wave Pool (AKA City Centre Aquatic Complex)

  • What: Known by locals as the wave pool for its artificial wave machine, the City Centre Aquatic Complex also boasts a leisure pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and a fitness centre.
  • Where: 1210 Pinetree Way
  • When: 5:30 am – 10:30 pm Monday to Saturday, 7 am – 10:30 pm Sunday
  • How much: $5.90 drop in

Culture yourself at the Evergreen Culture Centre

  • What: From book readings to musicals to Toastmasters extravaganzas and an art gallery, the Evergreen Cultural Centre offers a little bit of everything. Visit their website to see a full list of shows and events.

Eat Belgian waffles for dinner

  • What: Who doesn’t want waffles for dinner? Miracle Belgian Waffles is open as late as midnight so you can munch your heart away after an evening out.
  • Where: 2950 Glen Drive
  • When: 10 am – 11 pm Sunday to Thursday, 10 am – 12 am Friday and Saturday
  • How much: Around $6 per waffle

…then eat fusion tacos at Tacoreano

  • What: A blend of Mexican and Japenese Favorites, try out a Tuna taco packed with ginger and wasabi mayo. Not into tacos (you weirdo), they also sell quesadillas, burritos and rice bowls.

  • When: 11:30 am – 9 pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday

Watch a soccer game

  • What: Love soccer but don’t want to pay for the Whitecaps? Amateur soccer is the perfect substitute, and if you’re not already on a date, you could end up dating one of the players.😉

Read a book at the Coquitlam Public Library

  • What: A modern library fully equipped with computers, chill reading nooks, private rooms, and oodles of study carols.
