Sometimes, I wonder what I did in a past life to be cursed with the most unmanageable, unruly wavy hair. You know the type where hours of blow drying and flat ironing can be reversed with a single drop of water. Who feels me? Luckily, there is a new trend coming straight out of Hollywood that is a gift directly from the Hair Gods – the Brazilian Blowout. A 5-step process takes tight curls into loose wearable ones, and wavy-haired gals can finally get: wash and wear hair.

With minimum styling, it controls frizz and will smooth locks into shiny and healthy looking hair. Costs vary from hair length and salon but typically $250 – $600 and lasts 12 weeks. Until recently, celebs like Nicole Ritchie, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Aniston (um, hello hair trendsetter) were rumored to be making secret visits to their stylist. Now, their secret has been exposed!

Newly opened Gliss Salon (2938 West 4th Avenue, 604-742-0077) offers Brazilian Blowouts. Yung is their in-house guru on this and is the one to call. She and the other two Aveda-trained stylists are taking care of Vancity Buzz readers with a 10% off on all services for first timers. Those on a budget might want to check out Beauty Mark in Yaletown that offers a comparable at-home starter kit for $69. We’ve also heard good things about Kimberly at Lure Salon.
