17 Terry Fox Runs happening around Metro Vancouver this Sunday

Sep 15 2017, 2:51 am

Canadians around the country are gearing up this weekend to celebrate the legacy of one of our country’s most iconic heroes – Terry Fox.

In 1980, the young athlete, who had lost a leg to bone cancer, embarked on his Marathon of Hope, aiming to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Fox managed to run more than 5,000 km, from St. John’s, Newf., to Thunder Bay, Ont. before his cancer returned. He tragically died, aged just 22, on June 28, 1981.

Although Fox’s Marathon of Hope was cut short, it went on to spark hundreds of runs in support of cancer research – and that legacy continues today across Canada.
