It’s time to shine those dancing shoes and tune up that guitar. The organizers of the TD Youth Talent Showdown and Young Star Challenge are calling all local talents to audition for a chance to perform at the 2016 TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival.
“We’re bringing children and youth from all across the city, from different walks of life, together to show off their talents in a friendly competition,” said Jordan Eng, co-chair of the TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival happening August 13 and 14. “Dancers, musicians, magicians, singers, martial artists – all are welcome.”
The TD Youth Talent Showdown features performers between the ages of 13 to 20, while the Young Star Challenge showcases acts between the ages of 5 to 12. Both of the events are multi‐talent contests that have no limitation on performance styles and formats.
Deadline for submissions at is June 27, 2016. Applicants will be contacted for auditions on Saturday July 9, 2016, with the top 10 finalists competing in the Finals on August 14 at the TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival main stage. Winners will be awarded cash prizes, a trophy, and gifts.
“We’ve always had an excellent response from the community for the talent contests,” said Eng, who is also vice-president of festival organizer Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society. “Performers love the opportunity to showcase themselves in from of an audience, and compete in a friendly environment. Plus we offer a unique stage here in historic Chinatown.
“There be lots of spectators, and it’s good for everyone to be exposed to different art forms.”
The general public is also encouraged to vote for their favorite contestant online after the top ten performers are chosen at the Preliminaries. The contestant with the most votes will win the People’s Choice Award, and be awarded a cash prize and a trophy.
