Taco Bar, the full-service sit down restaurant at the Tacofino Gastown double-header, has just launched lunch service, and will be opening their patio for the season on Monday, April 20.
Situated off Blood Alley, the laid-back eatery with an oceanside cantina vibe opened their take-out side, Burrito Bar, late last year, followed quickly by Taco Bar. The sit-down restaurant has a different menu from the take-away storefront and the Tacofino trucks, complete with thoughtful cocktails showcasing the flavours of Mexico.
With the midday sun streaming in the airy, warm-toned dining room, lunch is the perfect time to get a table full of tacos and lighter fare like the Sweet and Spicy Green Salad (which comes with spicy lotus root chips you’ll want to write home about).
Even on a warm spring day, the smokey heat of the Ajiaco Soup (smoked chicken, red chili chicken broth, potato, sweet corn, avocado, capers, sour cream, cilantro) is ideal, particularly when there are any number of refreshing cocktails to sip in tandem, many showcasing both the mixology savvy of Bar Manager Justin Darnes and the spirits from far south of the border, like tequila and mezcal. There are mocktails, too, in case lunch isn’t for liquid adventures.
Among the taco offerings are a Pork Al Pastor (with a sweet bite of pineapple and the tang of pickled onions) and a hearty but meat-free Potato, Mushroom and Collard Greens Taco in a crisp shell. Fear not: The signature Tacofino Fish Taco is on the Taco Bar lunch menu, too.
Lunch is available at Taco Bar from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Address: 15 West Cordova Street (Enter from Blood Alley Square)
Hours: Sunday to Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday to Saturday 11:30 a.m. to Midnight
