The man killed in a shooting in Surrey on Monday night has been identified as 22-year-old Karanpartap Waraich.

Police responded to reports of gunfire just before 9:15 pm in the 12900 block of 96 Avenue. On arrival, they discovered Waraich in a crashed car, suffering gunshot wounds.

BC Ambulance was called, but attempts to save him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, Waraich was known to police and evidence suggested this was a targeted killing.

In the release, Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound described the shooting as “brazen” and said police are continuing to investigate the incident.

“There are many more investigative avenues that IHIT needs to concentrate on and we are looking to speak with any witnesses who may not have already come forward to police,” said Pound.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at [email protected].

Or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at solvecrime.ca.
