DH Vancouver Staff Feb 18, 2016 9:29 am

A man in Surrey is recovering after being shot in the leg while riding in a Surrey Metro Taxi.

On Thursday, February 18 just after 5 a.m., the Surrey RCMP responded to several 9-1-1 calls of gunshots being fired in the area of 143rd Street and 109th Avenue, one of which was from the victim saying he’d been shot in the leg.

He had been riding in a taxi when several gunshots had been fired at the vehicle, with one bullet grazing the victim’s leg. The man was sent to hospital and then released. The taxi driver wasn’t hurt during the shooting.

Police say they aren’t sure what the motive was for the shooting, but that it’s likely targeted. The investigation is still in early stages and the Surrey RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is leading it.

Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or
