Police are in the process of investigating a shooting that claimed one life in the Newton neighbourhood in Surrey.
The incident occurred at approximately 7 pm Friday when Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 6500 block of 137A Street.
Officers responding to the scene located a male suffering from injuries. He was rushed to hospital, but died shortly afterwards.
“Officers are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information,” reads a release.
“The investigation is still in its early stages but initial indications are that this is a targeted/isolated incident and involves parties known to each other.”
The RCMP has handed over the investigation to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
