Thursday Artist Talk on Public Art in Surrey

Winter Ice Palace

  • What: The 20th Annual Winter Ice Palace is a winter wonderland at Cloverdale Arena. Find some time to skate across the old fashioned pond.

Misery: An Arts Club on Tour Presentation

  • What: Successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued from a car crash by his “Number One Fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up in her secluded home in the mountains of Colorado. While Annie nurses him back to health, Paul soon realizes that he is not her guest, but her captive. Angered that he has killed off her favourite character, Annie forces Paul to resurrect her in a new book—and Paul soon finds himself writing for his freedom…and his life. Based on the novel by Stephen King.

Gamelan Music Field Trip

  • What: Visit artist George Rahi in his studio in Vancouver to see how he creates gamelan musical instruments out of recycled materials and make some music in the group jam session. No previous music or art skills required.

Sledge Hockey – Try It Day

Sledge Hockey/City of Surrey

  • What: Try to shoot the puck, move your sled and play games with experienced coaches and staff. All equipment is provided, and participants (ages six and older) will also get the chance to learn about adapted sport programs and services provided by the City of Surrey.

Curator’s Talk and Opening Reception

  • What: Celebrate the opening of Surrey Art Gallery’s two winter exhibits. Many Visions, Many Versions features the work of 24 contemporary artists from four major indigenous artistic traditions in India: the Gond and Warli communities of Central India, the Mithila region of Bihar, and the narrative scroll painters of West Bengal. Throughout the lobby, enjoy the traditional and contemporary quilts with Canadian themes in the quilting exhibit Canada, eh! by Fraser Valley Quilters’ Guild.

Petunia and the Vipers
