An overnight house fire in Surrey has prompted a police investigation after the body of a man was found inside the residence.

At 12:41 am Thursday morning, Surrey RCMP, along with Surrey firefighters, were called to a residential fire in the 12300 block of 112A Street.

Upon their arrival, police found a man’s body inside.

“The initial investigation has determined that the male died under suspicious circumstances and the cause of the fire has also been deemed suspicious,” said Surrey RCMP Const. Frank Jang.

Officers have taken one individual into custody as a result of the incident.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but police said at this point, it doesn’t appear to be a random incident and is believed to be between individuals known to each other.

Now, The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation can call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at [email protected]. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous, can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or leave a tip online at solvecrime.ca.
