The craft beer revolution in B.C. has made it’s way into Abbotsford with the official opening of Surlie Brewing.
Earlier in the year, we told you of all the exciting new craft brewery openings scheduled for 2014. Surlie Brewing now officially joins other breweries like Bomber Brewing as one of the first one’s to officially open their doors this year.
According to the blog, Mike’s Craft Beer, and the montly CAMRA Newsletter, Surlie Brewing opened their doors and began selling their flagship beer as of the beginning of this month. Led by Tim Brown, formerly of Dead Frog and Mission Springs, the brewery is a small shop that is currently only producing their “Solitaire” a Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
Currently Surlie Brewing does not have a tasting room or a retail space because of the City of Abbotsford’s zoning bylaws. Therefore, the only way to find Solitaire is at select retail locations.
Surlie Brewing is Abbotsford’s second microbrewery, joining Canuck Empire Brewing which opened just a few weeks ago. Canuck Empire intended to be the first microbrewery in Abbotsford which it accomplished despite an unsuccessful Indiegogo campaign last year.
