Do good, get free sandwiches on National Sandwich Day

Oct 15 2016, 5:50 am

National Sandwich Day is a holiday worth celebrating – for more reasons than one. Not only is it a day dedicated to our favourite hand food, but we can help others while eating them.

SUBWAY® Canada has partnered with Food Banks Canada to help make sure all Canadians get enough to eat. For every sandwich and drink purchased on Thursday, November 3, Subway will donate a meal to the food bank.

The donation will be over $100,000, meaning food banks across Canada will be getting at least the equivalent of 303,000 meals – the approximate number of children who rely on food banks every month.

Food insecurity is a rising problem in Canada: food bank use has risen 26% since 2008 and more than 1.7 million Canadians visit food banks every year. So while you eat your Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, you can know your purchase is helping others have access to the fresh food they need.

And there’s a bonus for you too – participating restaurants will not only donate to Food Banks Canada, but also give you a free sandwich of equal or lesser value. If that’s not worth a trip to your local Subway, then what is?
