It goes without saying that the film industry is booming.
But the driving force behind the prosperous movie scene is the city’s creatives. Directors, producers, videographers, script writers, actors, the list goes on.
Now there’s good news if you’re a filmmaker because STORYHIVE wants to give you a $10,000 grant to produce your pilot and have it put on the screen. For real.
STORYHIVE is a simple production funding and distribution competition for emerging content creators in BC and Alberta. And now you’re invited to enter by creating and submitting a 60-second pitch for your pilot video.
This year’s Web Series Edition competition is an incredible resource for anyone who creates video content and the application process is easy. You can apply online now via STORYHIVE until the contest end date at noon on September 11.
Then, from September 17 to 22, the community will vote for their favourite pilots and promote them on social networks. After a STORYHIVE Jury review, 30 pilots will receive will receive $10,000 to produce their pilot and have it showcased on in early 2018 on TELUS Optik™ TV On Demand and online.
“Web series are a modern, fun and accessible way for stories to be shared. An emerging or experienced filmmaker can experiment with style, form and story, while shining a light on their community and stories that are important to them. And of course, cultivate an audience, especially online,” director of STORYHIVE, Kim Guise, told Daily Hive.

“We’ve seen web series pilot ideas that are hilarious scripted series, powerful documentary stories, animated and kids content, parodies and much more. Digging into our previous edition pitches are a great way to get a taste of the types of stories creators are interested in telling,” said Guise.
Previous video success stories include the productions Welcome to Surrey, Girls vs. The City, Nerdvana, and How to Learn Anything. “STORYHIVE is such a unique program that I still can’t believe it’s real,” said Kashif Pasta, co-creator, Welcome to Surrey.
“STORYHIVE is open to all web series pitch ideas, and love clear, creative pitch videos and packages. Make sure to spend some time with our guidelines to make sure your ideas and team are eligible!,” Guise added.
