“It’s Morning Again In Canada.” Another late night comedian has poked fun at U.S. Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio’s patriotic commercial blunder.
On Friday night, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert took aim at Rubio’s campaign commercial that began with a shot of Vancouver’s skyline and harbour at sunrise. The ad, dubbed “Morning in America” by the campaign team, is an attempt to imitate the theme from Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election campaign.
“It turns out that skyline is Vancouver, and that American tugboat of optimism has a Canadian flag on the back,” said Colbert, before unleashing a deluge of Canadian stereotypes. “Maybe it’s trying to tug Vancouver into the United States.”
Earlier in the week, Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show also mocked Rubio’s use of Vancouver stock footage.
