Due to out-of-this-world demand, Cineplex is releasing a second block of tickets too see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on opening weekend.
The first block of tickets were released on October 19 and subsequently sold out. Cineplex will now sell even more tickets beginning Tuesday, November 3 at noon.
If advanced ticket sales are any indication, the new Star Wars film may be the biggest blockbuster hit of all time, perhaps beating out James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic. Tickets for the film’s opening weekend and advanced screenings beginning December 17 have already gone on sale and generated more than $6.5 million in box office revenue for IMAX alone – two months in advance.
“This is the highest demand for advance tickets that we’ve seen in our history for any opening weekend. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already breaking records and its only October,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations at Cineplex Entertainment last week. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the most anticipated films in decades and we’re so happy that Canadians are as excited to see it on the big screen as we are.”
Cineplex will also be hosting a 16 hour and 50 minute Star Wars marathon event beginning December 17 at 4:45 a.m. the Scotiabank Theatre in Vancouver. Fans can watch all seven movies back-to-back, including the premier of The Force Awakens.
