Bystanders reported the man using a stick and clubbing the bird until it died.

The accused was also described as being extremely aggressive with the several bystanders that attempted to intervene.

In the midst of the incident, police were called. The Vancouver Police Department was quick to arrive at the scene and make the arrest without harm being caused to anyone else at the park.

The suspect was later identified as Timothy Rowley, a 34-year-old male from Maple Ridge.

Rowley was arrested for cruelty to an animal and charged with causing an animal unnecessary suffering.

He was later released under several conditions, one of which is that he is no longer allowed to enter or be within Stanley Park.
