Shooting suspect arrested after standoff with police near US border

A standoff between Surrey RCMP and a shooting suspect near the Pacific Highway border crossing came to an end just before midnight on Saturday.

The incident took place in the in the 1300 block of 176th Street, and began at 7:15 pm, when police were called to the area and found one man who had allegedly been shot by another man who was still in the area.

Traffic in the area was diverted, as 176th Street was closed to traffic in both directions between 8th Avenue and 16th Avenue, while officers attempted “to contact the suspect,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann.

The suspect was arrested at 11:50 pm and taken into custody.

The victim was transported to hospital and is in stable condition.

Police believe the incident was that this incident is targeted and the two parties were known to each other.
