Sport Mart locations across Canada are closing down this March as part of a rebranding effort by current owner Canadian Tire. The best part of store closings? SALES! Last week, they were advertising 30 per cent off the entire store but have increased it to 40 per cent.
Sport Mart first opened in 1984 in Kamloops, B.C., and was purchased by the Forzani Group in 2001, who also owned Sport Check, Atmosphere (formerly Coast Mountain Sports) and Athlete’s World. The company was purchased by Canadian Tire who are now closing all Sport Mart locations across the country while keeping some and rebranding them as Sport Check or Atmosphere.
Canadian Tire intends to add over 100 new Sport Check and Atmosphere stores over the next five years and are also planning to open new concept, large, urban flagship Sport Check stores starting this year.
There are currently seven Sport Mart locations around Metro Vancouver that are closing down and it is unknown which stores will be closed for good or rebranded. Locations closing include:
