Who knew the SkyTrain could be so romantic?
Surrounded by friends and family, with rose pedals lining the aisles, Jeff and Nathaly Narin got hitched on a Mark II SkyTrain car on Thursday August 25.
The pair met on the Canada Line three years ago, and decided that it would be perfect to tie the knot in a similar fashion to how they met.
Speaking to TransLink for a blog post on The Buzzer, the couple said that when they met, they both had made a conscious choice to put their phones away and engage with fellow commuters. Jeff was travelling from Richmond to Vancouver after a day of meetings, and Nathaly was researching a job opportunity, when their paths serendipitously crossed.
“We were both aware of how hard it had become to connect with people in Vancouver – ask any single person in the city and they will agree – plus how much of life we were missing out on by being buried into the screens of our cell phones,” the couple told The Buzzer.
The pair’s eyes met, and they realized they recognized each other from when Nathaly worked at The Four Seasons Hotel, a place that Jeff frequented.
Nathaly made the first move that day on the train, and the rest is history.
In preparation for the big day, a SkyTrain was parked at Stadium-Chinatown, where the couple exchanged nuptials in front of family and friends.
The SkyTrain has been host to other unusual events in the city, such as Halloween parties and a “no pants” train ride, but this is the first time anyone has said “I do” on Vancouver’s rapid transit system.
