Gunfire has officially reached the doorsteps of the RCMP as a bullet hole was found on the exterior of a Surrey detachment building this morning.

According to RCMP, a maintenance worker discovered a hole about the size of a quarter in an exterior window of District 2’s Guildford Community Police Station, located at 10395 148 Street. The damaged window is boarded up from the inside.

“Police are currently examining the area and have found evidence consistent with a bullet causing the damage,” reads a press release.

The bullet hole does not seem to be recent and it is not known when gunfire struck the building.

Few details have been provided as the investigation has only just begun. At this time, police have not located any witnesses or identified any suspects.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.

There has been a spike in shootings during the first three months of year to the extent that the municipality has already exceeded half of last year’s total number of 58 shootings.

The last three shootings occurred over a 42 hour period from Saturday evening to early Monday afternoon.

If the police building shooting occurred sometime over the past three months, this would raise Surrey’s number of known shootings to 32 for this year to date.
