Scheer ridicules Trudeau in first parliamentary exchange (VIDEO)

Newly elected Conservative leader Andrew Scheer was not impressed with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week.

Scheer, who was elected on May 27, openly expressed his sentiments towards Trudeau in their first Parliamentary meeting on Tuesday.

During Question Period in the House of Commons, each leader took a jab at the other after Scheer brought up Trudeau’s recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“Yesterday, the Prime Minister articulated his sophisticated thoughts on the threats of global terrorism. He told Americans that it was super important to invest in ‘investigative national security stuff,'” Scheer told the Speaker of the House. “He then described the impact of violent acts of terrorists, saying Canadians are able to respond to “bad things happening without falling into a bad space.”

As Trudeau’s appearance was of light nature, and not politically charged, he didn’t speak much about politics during the American daytime television show. But Trudeau did answer a few political questions regarding security.

In response to Scheer, Trudeau said, “Mr. Speaker, I am glad the Leader of the Opposition’s new duties have not kept him from his daytime TV-watching.”

As the House erupts in noise, The Speaker, Geoff Regan, called order.

“I realize that hon. members are in a party mood, I hope, but let us make sure we are listening to the questions and the answers,” he said.

With order restored, Scheer replied to Trudeau.

“Mr. Speaker, after a week of avoiding me, that was the only place I could find him,” referring back to the television show.

During his victory speech, Scheer criticized Trudeau’s apparent focus on photo-ops and selfies instead of creating policies that generate prosperity for lower- and middle-class Canadians.

Trudeau was in the Niagara Region on Monday for the daytime television appearance, before paddling the Niagara River to celebrate World Environment Day.
