JAC by Jacqueline Conoir is a luxurious, contemporary, fashion line that combines urban edge with feminine silhouettes. Hailing from Vancouver, the collection combines luxurious textured fabrics; crinkled silk chiffons, mesh knits, felted wool weaves, silk/cotton blends and lightweight silks, bamboo jersey, tencel, and linen, making the pieces easy to layer.

What’s the story behind how JAC by Jacqueline Conoir got started?

Twenty-eight years ago, after finishing my design studies in Paris, France, I returned to Vancouver with my life partner to open our first shop on South Granville Street. Jacqueline Conoir was my first collection named after my mother who passed away when I was five years old. Back then, Vancouver was not much of a fashion city but we were determined to change that with persistence and determination. Today we have an 8,000 square foot Design Studio and Flagship store located at 164 W 5th avenue, which features my JAC and Jacqueline Conoir Collections along with various other local accessory designers.

How would you describe your customer? (e.g. their style)

My Jacqueline Conoir Collection suits, dresses and separates appeal to the modern successful women whose fashion statement projects their success. The woman who wears JAC lives life on her own terms. She has a “casual meets cool“ attitude.

What’s the most unique thing about JAC by Jacqueline Conoir?

The fact that we have survived the fashion industry for 28 years in Vancouver is unique in itself but what we pride ourselves with the most is the way we interact with our clients. All of our clients receive invites to our seasonal fashion shows and have an opportunity to pre-book our collections before they are released in the boutique to ensure their size and colour.

What’s the best thing about living in Vancouver?

Its beauty, of course. To be able to ski the mountains in the morning and then take a walk on the beach in the afternoon is special. I have traveled to many places but have not seen this type of lifestyle anywhere else.

What can we expect from JAC by Jacqueline Conoir in the next five years?

In the near future, with our Spring 2014 collection, we will be consolidating both lines to create JAC by Jacqueline Conoir. In keeping with the same quality of design, detail and European flare that Jacqueline Conoir is known for, JAC will combine these qualities with an urban edginess that is on-trend and modern. As for the future, the company has landed a partnership opening three new boutiques overseas in the past three months and will see this expand further to 50 stores within the next two years.

Where do you see the fashion & beauty industry going?

Although the availability of raw materials and manufacturing facilities in Vancouver are scarce, I do see the industry continuing to grow.

On your lunch break, where do you go?

I rarely get a lunch break but if I do, I will head out to Terra Bread for a grilled panini or to Honjin for sushi.

Favourite person of all time? Why?

For me, there is not one person who stands out, but all people who strive to make a difference.
