More and more, we are seeing big box, help-yourself style stores replacing local “mom and pop” stores. In the case of the bedding and bath industry, it’s no different. What’s becoming increasingly prevalent in Canada is linen and bath products that are manufactured overseas with materials sourced from unknown locations. The ability to buy from a Canadian brand with the satisfaction of supporting the local economy is quickly fading.
Enter Rothman & Co., a new locally owned boutique bedding and linens store that’s going against the grain in an ever-expanding market of retail giants. The new Rothman & Co. retail space, located at 3301 West Broadway, in Kitsilano is a spacious 2,000 square foot storefront and houses exclusive, high-quality, Canadian-made products featuring European materials.
The new store is the brainchild of Marcia Rothman (shown above) who recognized the opportunity to offer luxury Canadian bedding and linens to the Vancouver market.
“We have a long history of bed and bath retail in Vancouver, starting back in 1982,” says Jeff Rothman, co-owner of Rothman & Co. “Linens are what we know, do, and love. Now we’re ready for the next step where we can offer Canadian products we are proud to sell and use ourselves. Our family is lucky to have the ongoing support of the Canadian home textiles industry, which is an important part of our brand mantra.”
The Rothman family first established itself in 1982 when its patriarch, Ed Rothman, opened the now well-recognized brand, Ed’s Linen Warehouse in Richmond, which quickly expanded to eight stores in the height of the ‘90s. The family is pleased their linen legacy is growing and gaining support from the local community in Vancouver.
The new retail space offers a wide range of bedding, pillows, duvets, towels and bath accessories. What sets the store apart is its private label collection with unique names like some of the Westside Vancouver neighbourhoods in which the Rothmans have lived, and the middle names of their children.
Not only does the store have an interior designer on-site to offer customers advice, you might also get to meet their resident K-9 employees, Kona and Lulu (shown below).
The store will have its official opening the weekend of June 19 to 21.
