Man hospitalized after early-morning shooting near Richmond elementary school

A 30-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot, not far from a Richmond elementary school, early on Sunday morning.

Just before 1 am, Richmond RCMP responded to the 9000 block of Saunders Road for a report of gunshots.

Upon their arrival, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, who was quickly taken to the hospital.

Richmond RCMP Cpl. Denis Hwang said police are “very concerned and disturbed by this recent act of violence in our community.”

The victim, a Richmond resident, is “well-known” to police.

Investigators from the Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit are in the preliminary stages of their investigation, Hwang added.
