A 31-year-old man was arrested after a standoff with Richmond RCMP on Monday night.

Just after 8 pm, police responded to an area near Cambie Road and Dallyn Road, after receiving reports a 28-year-old woman had been assaulted.

The woman told police that the suspect had fled to another property in the area, and police traced him to a house in the 11000 block of Cambie Road.

“A full contingent of Richmond RCMP officers surrounded the house,” said Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a release.

“The police were acting on information that the suspect had a rifle in his possession and allegedly made threats against the victim and other members of her family.”

Hwang added that “multiple attempts” by police to have the suspect surrender peacefully were unsuccessful.

In response, he said, tactical officers from the LMD Emergency Response Team (ERT) were deployed.

ERT officers found the suspect hiding in the house and just before 2 am, the suspect – who is known to police – was arrested.

The investigation continues and charges against the suspect are pending.
