Now you can reserve an Evo with your voice in Vancouver

Our sharing community is thriving as more locals opt for ride-sharing options over the cost of owning and maintaining their own cars. It makes total sense since it’s straightforward, relatively inexpensive, and commitment-free.

Now ride-sharing in BC just got even easier. Vancouver-based tech company Apply Digital has teamed up with Evo Car Share to create a software-enabled service that you’re going to love – the Alexa skill.

This new skill for Amazon Alexa allows you to reserve an Evo with your voice, using an Alexa-enabled device. Evo is the first car share to introduce the skill in Canada and all you need to use it is an Evo membership.

The magic words: “Alexa, ask Evo to book me an Evo.” That’s it!

Since Evo has the largest car share fleet in BC with 1,250 four-door Toyota Prius hybrids, you’ll have no trouble finding a car – fast.

“We had been planning it long before Alexa was available in Canada, knowing how important a voice-first experience for Evo was going to be. The expectation has been set in other markets and Evo fully understands the need to constantly adapt to the changing needs of their users,” Scott Michaels, chief strategist and partner at Apply Digital said in a press release.

“We founded Apply Digital to help companies create exciting new offerings for their customers through emerging technology, and we are thrilled to partner with Evo to develop an Alexa skill made in Canada, for Canadians.”

The best part? It’s 100% free to use the Alexa skill. Once you’re an Evo member you can connect your account with the Alexa app, and when you activate the skill it’s ready to use.

Additional uses and commands:

  • Make a reservation up to 30 minutes in advance for free — “Alexa, ask Evo to book me an Evo.”
  • Get reservation information and time remaining — “Alexa, ask Evo how much time is left on my reservation.”
  • Change or cancel a reservation — “Alexa, ask Evo to cancel my booking.”

“We always want to make life simpler and better for British Columbians and the new Alexa skill is like having another pair of arms. Being able to reserve an Evo without having to stop whatever you’re doing means Members can stay focused on the things that matter most to them,” said Tai Silvey, director of Evo Car Share.

You can use the Evo Alexa skill on any of the 18 Amazon Alexa-enabled devices, including the Echo and Echo Dot, along with many other Alexa-enabled devices including the new Sonos One smart speaker. Download the Evo app via the Apple Stor or Google Play.
