It’s been more than a year since Donnie and Marie had a hoppy place to call home.

The bonded duo was unceremoniously abandoned in a box outside a school with a sign saying “free rabbits,” and found their way to the Vancouver SPCA branch.

That was 383 days ago.

For this edition of Rescue Me, let’s try to get this happy, inquisitive pair a forever home.

Donnie and Marie live up to their name, say shelter staff. Not only are they entertaining, but they’re best friends too.

“They love new boxes, toys, and bedding whenever possible as they enjoy exploring and checking everything out. Once tuckered out they will flop down and take a big nap together while they snuggle,” says Jessica Adams of the Vancouver SPCA.

They even groom each other! They’re litter-trained, love vegetables and hay and have both been spayed and neutered.

Adams says rabbits are extremely intelligent and social animals that can be easily house trained and nurtured to become affectionate companions.

To adopt these lovely rabbits, you can stop by the SPCA Vancouver Adoption Centre at 1205 East 7th Avenue to meet the rabbits and fill out an application form.

The shelter has also taken in a large amount of dogs and cats from a Surrey seizure, so you can check those guys out too.

If you know a shelter animal that’s gone through an amazing transformation after being adopted —or know a shelter pet that’s in dire need of a home, email Vancity Buzz columnist Darcy Wintonyk at [email protected] and the story could be featured in an upcoming Rescue Me column.
