Our rescue pup Seymour was a real sad sack when we took him in as a foster pup last year.

Filthy and emaciated, you could feel just about every bone in his body. He would eat every piece of paper on the ground when you were out for a walk, and I figured that’s how he survived when he was a stray. If you raised your voice anywhere near him he would just flatten himself against the wall and crumple into a ball. Someone out there wasn’t very nice to Seymour.

Skinny and filthy, this is Seymour after being brought into shelter.

But after giving him a good bath, good food and lots of cuddles, this terrier mutt made a wonderful transformation and blossomed into a really sweet dog. He’s the reason I’m such a strong advocate for people fostering and adopting shelter dogs instead of going to a breeder or pet shop.

North American shelters and animal welfare groups move mountains so homeless and abused pets can find loving homes. Some pets enter the shelter system severely injured, traumatized and neglected, and it’s only through tender loving care they get a new home and a happy ending.

If you have a rescue pet that’s made an amazing transformation we’d like to hear from you. Each week Vancity Buzz will feature the story of a furry companion that’s thrived in their new home.

Please send your photos and stories to [email protected] and tweet your photos to @darcynews.

Can’t wait to hear your stories!
