36 Remembrance Day ceremonies in Metro Vancouver 2017

As millions of Canadians pay their respects to soldiers past and present, here are all the Remembrance Day ceremonies you can attend in Metro Vancouver on Friday, November 11.

Note that vehicles displaying BC veteran licence plates will be exempt from parking fees for Veterans Week, November 4 to 11 at:

  • City of Vancouver parking meters
  • EasyPark parkade and surface lots; and
  • In all parks and community centres in Vancouver

As well, TransLink is offering free transit to all card-carrying veterans and uniformed members of the armed forces on November 11:

  • all day on buses
  • from 8 am to 6 pm on SeaBus and SkyTrain

Vancouver

National Aboriginal Veterans Day

  • What: On Wednesday, ahead of the main November 11 ceremony, there will be a special march and service remembering aboriginal veterans.
  • March: Begins at 10:15 am at the Carnegie Centre at 10:15 am and proceeds to the cenotaph at Victory Square.
  • Ceremony: Cenotaph at Victory Square – 200 West Hastings Street, Vancouver
  • Time: 10:45 am

Victory Square Cenotaph

  • Ceremony:
    • 10 am: Performance by the Vancouver Bach Youth Choir and Sarabande
    • 10:10 am: Veterans, military marching units, and bands will be led to Victory Square by the Vancouver Flag Party for the cenotaph ceremony. Shortly afterward, there will be a combined performance by Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services and the Regimental Pipes and Drums of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada.
    • 11 am: the Last Post will be sounded. Two Minutes of Silence, during which a 21-gun salute by the 15th Field Artillery Regiment will be heard from Portside Park. Lament and Rouse will follow. The Royal Canadian Air Force will conduct a fly-past moments later, weather permitting. The enduring In Flanders Fields will then be sung by the Bach Youth Choir and Sarabande and wreaths will be placed at the Cenotaph.
  • Where: Victory Square – 200
  • Parade: The Remembrance Day parade will begin once the ceremony finishes. Participants will march west along Hastings past the reviewing stand between Homer and Richards, turning right at Richards, east on Cordova, then south on Cambie.

Memorial South Park Cenotaph

  • Where: Memorial South Park Cenotaph – 41st Avenue and Windsor Street, Vancouver
  • Time: 10:30 am

Japanese Canadian War Memorial

  • Where: Stanley Park, Vancouver (near the Vancouver Aquarium)
  • Time: 10:40 am

War Memorial Gym at UBC

  • Where: War Memorial Gym (6081 University Boulevard, Vancouver)
  • Time: 10:45 am

Grandview Park

  • Where: Grandview Park – 1657 Charles St at Commercial Drive, Vancouver
  • Time: 10:45 am

Remembrance Day at Mountain View Cemetery

  • What: Three unique concerts in honour of Canada’s veterans, celebrating the Renfrew Heights Veterans Housing Project, a musical tribute to the Band of the Legendary 85th Regiment, and music for remembrance and reflection.
  • Where: Mountain View Cemetery Celebration Hall – 5455 Fraser Street, Vancouver
  • Time: 11 am

Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

  • What: A Service at Sea, which will be conducted from the Commodore’s vessel, equipped  with a public address system in order that all ships, the people on the breakwater,  and those in the Clubhouse may hear the Service.
  • Where: Jericho Clubhouse – 3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver
  • Time: 10:45 am

CRAB Park at Portside

  • Where: CRAB Park at Portside – 1 Main Street, Vancouver
  • Time: 10:55 am

Chinatown Memorial

  • Where: Chinatown Memorial – Keefer Street at Columbia Street, Vancouver
  • Time: 12:30 pm

Burnaby

Confederation Park Cenotaph

  • Parade: 10:30 am. Begins at Safeway parking lot – 4440 Hasting Street, Burnaby, then heads north on Alpha Avenue.
  • Service: 11 am
  • Where: North Burnaby Cenotaph, Confederation Park – Willingdon Avenue and Penzance Drive, Burnaby

Bonsor Park Cenotaph

  • Parade: 10:30 am. Begins at Fire Hall #3, 6511 Marlborough Avenue, and proceeds west on Bennett Street, south on Nelson Avenue and southwest onto Jubilee Avenue.
  • Service: 11 am
  • Where: South Burnaby Cenotaph, Bonsor Park – Imperial Street and Nelson Avenue, Burnaby

Coquitlam

Blue Mountain Park Cenotaph

  • Ceremony: 9:45 a.m. at Como Lake Middle School – 1121 King Albert Avenue, Coquitlam
  • Parade: 10:30 am Begins at Como Lake Middle School then heads along Winslow Avenue to the cenotaph on Veteran’s Way
  • Service: 11 am
  • Where: Blue Mountain Park – 975 King Albert Avenue, Coquitlam

Delta and Ladner

Douglas Park Cenotaph/Langley Legion

  • Parade: Begins at 10:30 am at former Legion at 20570 56 Avenue, turns onto Salt Lane, crosses Fraser Highway, through McBurney Junction, and across Douglas Crescent to Douglas Park.
  • Service: At Douglas Park Cenotaph – 20452-20458 Park Avenue, Langley
  • Time: 10:50 am

Fort Langley Cemetery

  • Parade: Begins at 10:25 am at the west end of the Fort Langley Cemetery near the intersection of Sy Andrew’s and Nash streets, and proceeds along the roadways within the cemetery to the cenotaph.
  • Service: At the Fort Langley Cemetery Cenotaph – 9025 Glover Rd, Fort Langley
  • Time: 10:40 am

Fort Langley Heritage Garden

  • What: Fort Langley Heritage Garden has prepared a special Remembrance Day tribute, including some very unique artwork by Brookswood artist, Julie Bourne, who crafts beautiful and evocative ceramic poppy sculptures.
  • Where: Across from the St. Andrews Cemetery – 23105 St. Glover Road

Aldergrove Legion

  • Parade: Begins at 10:45 am on Old Yale Road, turns onto 26B Street, then heads west on Fraser Highway to the Aldergrove Legion.
