The Red Truck Concert Series is back for its second year with an eclectic music line up and three summer dates beginning June 11.
The series officially began last summer at the East Vancouver brewery. And on Saturday, Red Truck is premiering this year’s concerts with a solid line up of bands including headliners Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears all the way from Austin, Texas.
Known for their local brews, Red Truck’s concert series came about because of founder, Mark James. “Our founder wanted to create an opportunity for beer lovers and music fans to come together within the city to enjoy live music and delicious beer without having to spend a large amount of money or having to travel out of town for a music festival experience,” said Red Truck’s director of marketing, Brian Fong.
Regularly running live music on Friday and Saturday nights, Red Truck is no stranger to the music industry. Supporting the music community has always been important to the brewery, and the series continues to expand that support. “Our aim is to promote local musicians by creating a new venue for them to showcase their talents,” Fong said. “It is our hope that both them and our concertgoers continue to support the bands and the music community in general.”
What started with a small stage last year is expanding this year, with the addition of a second stage to allow more musicians to take part in the concert series, and Fong said they hope the event continues to grow. “We want to become a household name where people wait anxiously to hear our lineup, the way they do for festivals of the likes of Squamish. We want to add more internationally acclaimed bands to our main stage and continue to seek baby bands looking for a chance to be noticed.”
The line-ups for this year’s Concert Series include Ballantynes, Old Man Canyon, and The Washboard Union. And as the second year’s series begins, Red Truck will be looking on how to improve but are also very happy with their current set up. “We are interested to see how our second year differentiates from last year, but mostly, very appreciative that we have been lucky enough to continue providing live music for our fans,” Fong said.
