One of the largest and most anticipated freeride mountain biking competitions of the year this weekend in Whistler. Fusing elements of slope style, dirt jump and classic downhill biking, Red Bull Joyride anchors the final weekend of the Crankworx Whistler festival with a season-defining freeride competition on Saturday.
The course has been designed by riders for riders, and the 2014 Joyride will be the biggest in the four-year history of the event as athletes look to push the sport and themselves to new heights.
Red Bull Joyride takes place at the bottom of Whistler Bike Park, next to the base of the Whistler Gondola. Admission is free and there’s many vantage points around the course where you can watch – just make sure you get there early to get a good spot!
Defending champion and local rider Brandon Semenuk tested the course from top to bottom, under the guidance of Darren Berrecloth, and caught the whole thing on a GoPro.
“[The course] worked properly right of the gate this year, which is awesome,” Berrecloth said. “Usually we have to come in here and tweak a bunch of stuff, but the builders did a great job and got it all on the first try.”
The event has 20 top athletes vying for the first place win, including:
When: Saturday, August 16
Where: Whistler, B.C.
