The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a market recall for some pre-packaged greens from Greenbelt Greenhouse Ltd., due to possible Listeria contamination.

The affected products include:

  • Fresh Microgreen Mix
  • Sweet and Crunchy Microgreen Mix
  • Spicy Microgreen Mix
  • Pea Shoots Microgreens
  • Sunflower Microgreens
  • Wheatgrass
  • Spring Pea Microgreen Mix
  • Brocoli Microgreens
  • Arugula Microgreens

All the affected recall products have a Best-Before date of between April 26 and May 4.

Although there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, the CFIA is advising anyone who thinks they may have become sick from eating any of the products listed to immediately call their doctor.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” the CFIA said in a release.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

This recall was triggered by the company and the CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.
