Heavy rainfall warning in effect for Metro Vancouver

Nov 6 2016, 12:43 am

Yesterday afternoon’s break in rainfall was short-lived as another moist, Pacific system will arrive today bringing even more wet weather.

Environment Canada says rainfall will be heavy Saturday afternoon, prompting the federal weather agency to issue a heavy rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver. Parts of the region can expect approximately 50 mm of rainfall this afternoon, particularly over the eastern suburban municipalities and the western Fraser Valley.

Localized flash flooding is possible for low-lying areas and where storm drains are clogged with leaves and other debris, causing water pooling on roads.

Washouts could also occur near rivers, creeks, and culverts, and mountainside slopes could become unstable, increasing the possibility of rockslides and landslides.

If visibility conditions deteoriate while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

The current seven-day forecast for Vancouver International Airport shows no reprieve from the rain.
