Public open house for new rental proposal in Marpole

Domus Homes is hosting a Public Open House to gather input on their proposal for new purpose-built rental housing at 8615 Laurel Street on December 8.

Attendees will have the opportunity to review the initial plans for the property and share their feedback with the project team.

Domus Homes is working with Birmingham & Wood on a scheme that will deliver additional family-oriented purpose-built rental for the Marpole community, where the current vacancy rate is 0.6%.

The envisioned scheme will replace an aging 26-unit rental building with a newly constructed six-storey rental building featuring 65 new townhomes and apartments. In addition, 35% of the units will be two and three bedroom homes suitable for family with children.

The building’s “human-scale” design separates the building into two components to improve circulation within the property and to allow for a shared outdoor space and children’s play area.

The Marpole Community Plan, approved by City Council in 2014, designates the property for rental residential development. The plan’s comprehensive design parameters guide the proposal’s significant public realm improvements to the West 70th Avenue streetscape with a new widened sidewalk and a double row of street trees.

Date: December 8

Time: 5 pm to 7:30 pm (drop-in)
